Pennsylvania Red Meat Production Up 2 Percent

Commercial red meat production for Pennsylvania totaled 127.0 million pounds in October, up 2 percent from the 124.6 million pounds produced in October 2015.
Cattle slaughter totaled 88.1 thousand head, up 2 percent from October 2015. The average live weight was up 2 pounds from the previous year, at 1,211. Calf slaughter totaled 8,300 thousand head, up 5 percent from October 2015. The average live weight
was down 8 pound from last year, at 429 pounds.
Hog slaughter totaled 302.3 thousand head, up 1 percent from October 2015. The average live weight was down 2 pounds from the previous year, at 274 pounds.
Sheep slaughter totaled 5.6 thousand head, 14 percent above last year. The average live weight was 108 pounds, up 2 pounds from October a year ago.
