PFB Annual Golf Tournament Supports Education Programs
Pennsylvania Ag Connection - 06/21/2018

Pennsylvania Farm Bureau (PFB) raised $45,000 to help support agricultural education and awareness programs during the 26th Annual Richard Prether Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Golf Classic in Hershey.

Since 1993, the fundraising event has generated more than $869,000 in total contributions to the Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Foundation (PFAF), which is a charitable organization supported by PFB. PFAF funds a variety of projects, including six Mobile Agriculture Education Science Labs, the "Ag on the Go" program and the weeklong Educator's Ag Institute for teachers working with students in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade.

"Pennsylvania farmers think children across the state should learn about farming, the environment, nutrition and where their food comes from. Money raised from the golf tournament helps the foundation achieve those goals," said PFB President Rick Ebert, who also serves as PFAF Chairman. "The foundation also helps train teachers about agriculture practices and encourages them to include accurate information about food and farming in their classroom curriculum."

Farm Bureau and PFAF expressed thanks to the golfers who participated in the event and dozens of Golf Classic sponsors.

"Our educational outreach programs are extremely popular, but they require a tremendous amount of financial support to keep them running. Fundraising events such as the golf tournament help us bring our mobile science labs to Pennsylvania schools and fund additional educational outreach programs spearheaded by our foundation," concluded Ebert.
