Pennsylvania Red Meat Production Up 2 Percent

Pennsylvania commercial red meat production for Pennsylvania totaled 130.6 million pounds in December, up 2 percent from the 128.2 million pounds produced in December 2015.
Cattle slaughter totaled 89.8 thousand head, up 6 percent from December 2015. The average live weight was down 21 pounds from the previous year, at 1,222.
Calf slaughter totaled 8,400 thousand head, up 6 percent from December 2015. The average live weight was down 6 pounds from last year, at 430 pounds.
Hog slaughter totaled 313.8 thousand head, up 1 percent from December 2015. The average live weight was down 8 pounds from the previous year, at 271 pounds.
Sheep slaughter totaled 6.4 thousand head, 10 percent above last year. The average live weight was 105 pounds, up 6 pounds from December a year ago.
