Draft Horses Please Crowds at Farm Show
Pennsylvania Ag Connection - 01/19/2018

The competition was unpredictable during the Draft Horse Pleasure Show, with various winners across the board, at the 102nd Pennsylvania Farm Show.

This show incorporates the recreational values of the draft horse industry. Though they are best known for their hitches and carts, draft horses are commonly used for Western and English riding, including barrel racing. Their size does not keep them from keeping up with the versatility of other equine breeds.

In addition, the feed scurry class showcases the workability of these animals as they demonstrate their strength and agility. The feed scurry class requires a team of horses to pull a loaded cart while the driver maneuvers them through a course; at the same time, a lending hand is throwing hay bales off the hitch at designated locations.

There were multiple repeated winners at the Draft Horse Pleasure show this year at the 102nd Pennsylvania Farm Show. Brianna Seward took the first-place title for the second year in a row in the junior cart class, Jacob Carbaugh of Rocky Ridge Farm, Greencastle, Franklin Co. in the team hitch class, and Jarrett Morrison of Benchfield Farms, Newville, Cumberland Co for the youth hitch team class.

The judge for all of the class entries was Marti Hobson of Taneytown, Maryland
