Pennsylvania Farm Bureau (PFB) won all six awards it was eligible to receive, including the prestigious Pinnacle Award and New Horizon Award, during the American Farm Bureau Federation's (AFBF) 99th Annual Meeting in Nashville.

The Pinnacle Award is the highest award a state Farm Bureau can earn for overall program and membership achievement, while the New Horizon Award is presented to states with the most innovative new program. PFB won the New Horizon Award for the creation and implementation of "Pennsylvania Ag Literacy Week."

As part of Ag Literacy Week, hundreds of volunteer farmers visited 110 schools, where they read books to more than 400 classrooms with a total of 8,400 students. The book provided information on a wide variety of steps it takes to get food to the table, while offering thanks to the people who grow, transport, sell and prepare our food. Students also took part in a food plate activity and PFB provided teachers with supplemental lesson plans.

In addition, PFB received "Awards for Excellence" in all four program activity areas, including Advocacy; Engagement and Outreach; Leadership and Business Development; and Membership Value.

"It takes a tremendous team effort to attain the level of success we were able to achieve in 2017," said PFB President Rick Ebert. "The awards put a spotlight on the hard work and dedication of our grassroots farmer volunteers and organization staff to generate success stories and address pressing issues affecting Pennsylvania's agriculture industry and its farm families."

Meanwhile, PFB's educational non-profit organization, the Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Foundation, was presented the Scholar Award by the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture (AFBFA). The Scholar Award recognizes the state Farm Bureau that has provided the highest level of donations within its membership group. During the award presentation, AFBFA said Pennsylvania's investment in the Foundation is crucial to the program's success and advancing its mission of building awareness, understanding and a positive public perception of agriculture through education.
