Madness Returns with an Autumn Theme in Milkshake Contest
Pennsylvania Ag Connection - 09/23/2016

Pumpkin won the judges at this year's annual Milkshake Madness Contest at the All-American Dairy Show at the Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg.

BOB 94.9's Nancy Ryan, Virginia exhibitor Regan Jackson and abc27's Valerie Pritchett created the winning beverage with their autumn-themed milkshake. The winning beverage included a vanilla milkshake base with ginger snap cookies, candy corn, and pumpkin flavored whipped topping.

While the Cookie Monster-themed shake of PA State Dairy Princess Savannah Zanic was also a finalist, the fall themed Pumpkin Love shake took top honors.

"All the milkshakes had their own unique flavor," judge Sharon Altland said on behalf of the panel. "But the root beer syrup dominated the flavor of the Cookie Monster milkshake. It was a tough call between two, but Pumpkin Love won."

Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding's team had a root beer and raspberry flavored milkshake that was topped with whipped cream, raspberries, and walnuts. Pennsylvania 2nd Alternate Dairy Princess Lydia Szmanski's team created a chocolate based milkshake with root beer syrup and chocolate syrup that was topped with chocolate cookies, whipped cream, and a cherry.

Contestants had less than 15 minutes to plan and execute their milkshakes which were then judged for creativity, texture and overall flavor. This year's panel of judges included Farm Show Executive Director Sharon Altland, Farm Show Director of Food Service Krista Paroda, and PA Preferred intern Brogen Herun.

Other participants for the event included PA Alternate Dairy Princess Morgan Brymesser, CBS 21's Lara Greenburg, BOB 94.9's Newman, and youth exhibitor Shannon Sears of New York.

Each member of the winning team received PA Preferred gift baskets from event sponsor PA Preferred. Event sponsor Turkey Hill provided the ice cream.
