Cool Temps Slow Pennsylvania Bean Maturity

Pennsylvania had a good week for field activities with an average of 4.5 days suitable for field work. Temperatures were reported with a high of 88F, a low of 34F and a state average temperature of 61F.

Decreasing temperatures slowed the progress on bean maturity, but the crop still looks excellent.

Thunderstorm and rain were reported in some areas with some strong wind, heavy rain and hail.

Peach harvest is nearly completed, growers are satisfied with their crop. Apples, vegetables and pumpkins continue to be harvested and are available at farmers markets.

Field activities involved the harvesting of apples, potatoes, and pumpkins with some corn silage.
